2011 Pennsylvania Commercial Hybrid Corn Test Report in Excel Format

2011 BMR Hybrid Evaluation Trial Results

In 2011, based on input from the PDMP hybrid testing advisory committee, we conducted a separate study to evaluate BMR, Nutridense and non-BMR hybrids using wet chemistry methods for NDFD at Cumberland Valley Ag Services. Other analyses were performed using NIR. Several seed companies participated in this special test, which was conducted at three central Pennsylvania locations. Results of the test are reported on these spreadsheets in a similar format to other PDMP testing programs, except that a summary of some of the research questions is provided on a separated tab on the worksheet.

2011 Silage Hybrid Performance Data

Below are Excel files of the Penn State/PDMP corn silage hybrid performance data from 2011. There are multiple tabs or datasheets in each file. If you have trouble viewing all the sheets, maximize the size of both the window and the spreadsheet by clicking the small box in the upper right corner.

Hybrids were tested in three performance regions as noted below. Also, an evaluation of early hybrids in our South Central locations was conducted this year and labeled as the Early Medium Maturity Hybrids in South Central PA test. Unfortunately the series of unusual weather events this year have severely impacted our program. In the very early and early testing locations, all three of the sites needed to be abandoned: one because of emergence issues in the wet spring, and two because of flood damage in September. We were able to salvage our backup site at Rock Springs, but this was planted late and experienced some drought stress. In our medium maturity tests, one was destroyed by crow damage, and a second site was lost due to a planter error. We were able to use our Rock Springs backup site and one site from Blair County. In the mid and late maturity zone, all sites needed to be abandoned. The Franklin and Perry sites experienced severe drought stress. The Lancaster site had uneven emergence due to the wet spring. The backup site at the Landisville research farm was blown over by Tropical Storm Lee a few days before harvest. For the Early Medium Maturity test in south central PA, we were able to utilize the test at the Lancaster site but had to abandon the site in Franklin County due to the severe drought there. Unfortunately, our performance data this year will be very limited due to these issues.

2010 Silage Hybrid Performance Data

Below are Excel files of the corn silage hybrid performance data from 2010. There are multiple tabs or datasheets in each file. If you have trouble viewing all the sheets, maximize the size of both the window and the spreadsheet by clicking the small box in the upper right corner.

Hybrids were tested in three performance regions as noted below. Also, an experimental evaluation of early hybrids at our Chambersburg site was conducted this year and labeled as the Early Medium Maturity in South Central PA test. Unfortunately this test was impacted by the drought and the variability is such that it should not be used as a guide to hybrid selection. (Posted October 13, 2010 at 3:35 pm).

2009 Silage Hybrid Performance Data

(Posted November 9, 2009 at 1:23 pm)

In 2009, we conducted a separate study to evaluate BMR and non-BMR hybrids using two different laboratories, Dairy One and Cumberland Valley Ag Services. Cumberland Valley also performed a 12 hour NIR based NDFD assessment of the hybrids for comparison as well. These are preliminary results: more details and interpretation will follow.

2006 Silage Hybrid Performance Data in Excel format

Note: The Mid Maturity data set has had minor updates to the mean milk/ton ratings. The new files were loaded on the server early in the morning of November 7, 2006.

These files allow users to sort the mean hybrid performance information by any of the performance traits. The files include data from the early (93-103d) test conducted in Bradford and Tioga Counties, the early medium maturity (105-110d) tests, the mid maturity (110-115d) tests and the late maturity (115-120d) tests. Each file contains spreadsheets with mean as well as individual location data, plus some graphs depicting hybrid performance. A complete written report on these trials will be posted shortly. (Posted November 2, 2006)

The 2005 Reports are currently available as Adobe Acrobat pdf files. They can be viewed using Adobe's free Acrobat Reader.
